This section of Doyers Street was once known as "The Bloody Angle"; it was asserted that more murders were committed on this site than any other place in the world.  Even if it weren't true, this was the site of furious battles between rival Tongs during the first decades of the 20th century.  These events have bequeathed to us the term "hatchet men" which hints at how unpleasant these clashes must have been.
I'd like to extend a special thanks to the Chinatown residents who were so helpful with directions and advice for us tourists.
