Fortunately for everyone concerned, the mine itself is inaccessible. I do know a couple of
miners who spoke at length about their experiences in the mine.
I'm sure they would prefer their faces be obscured. They're tough old men of the old
style; it was all in a day's work for them. The photo was taken in a camp partially built
in the 1930s by the gentleman on the right. After passing from the family, he reacquired
it some years later and lives there in the summer.
Some of the tailings. They pose some danger, from mechanical failure of the piles
themselves, more than from chemical pollution. Water samples from surrounding residences
showed only one problem, although the stream hosts only more primitive life forms until it
is diluted by the next tributary.
