Fellini page would be
complete without mentioning Nino Rota, who wrote the music for all of
Fellini's films from The White Sheik (1952) to The Orchestra Rehearsal
(1979). Their collaboration enriches the world's cinema and those who
view their art. There is a tribute album, Amarcord Nino Rota, by Carla
Bley (1981, Hannibal Records, HNBL 9301) and a CD, the Film Music of
Nino Rota by Massimo Palumbo (1999, Chandos Movies, Chan 9771) It is
music strange and familiar, elegant yet comical, like Fellini's films.
There is also a splendid 2-CD set called "The Essential Nino Rota Film
Music Collection" on the Silva America label (2003, SBMC, Inc., SIL-CD
1153), performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
is the closest I've found to the soundtracks. Listen, view.
You'll be glad you did. I feel obliged to mention I have no economic
interest in Ms. Bley, Mr. Palumbo or the City of Prague Philharmonic
when I endorse their recordings or anything else.
